Chamonix weekend wedding

Chamonix

We just spent the long weekend in Chamonix, south-east France, for a family wedding. I only previously knew of Chamonix as a ski resort, but turns out it’s just beautiful in the summer: weather in the high twenties, wildflowers everywhere and loads of non-snow-dependent activities. I used the opportunity to take my brand-new camera – an Olympus OM-D – for a spin. I’m rather pleased with the results.

We stayed with about 20 of my extended family, aged from 4 to 90, in a gorgeous chalet with views to die for along with a hammock, table tennis, pool table and hot tub. Everything you need in life, really. (If you’re interested, the chalet was this one and the rate starts at only 45/eur/night – bargain).

The chalet was self-catered, so we consumed pretty much exclusively bread & cheese for the entire trip.

Really nice to have some family hang-time away from everything.

The chalet even had a resident kitty, 11-year-old Angel, who liked to keep us company on the deck.

The wedding itself took place in the town’s church with the reception at a nearby golf club. I can’t think of a more picturesque setting and the whole day was super fun.

We didn’t really do much else apart from take a cable car into the mountains one day (about which more later), wander in the woods, pop into town for the market and hang out at the pool. Pretty much bliss.

They should pay me. In cameras. Are you listening, Olympus?

Wow. Stunning setting & photos. And I’m coveting the OM-D now (I can’t buy it, I just bought a Fuji X100!)
I wish *all* rentals came with a resident cat.

Oh my goodness Chamonix is BEAUTIFUL in the summer time. Sigh. I was there this past February and your pictures of the city are perfect. I’ve got quite the winter ones – grey skies and snow covered ground – to contrast. Of course mine came out no where close to as nicely as yours :)

I have just stumbled across your blog and I love it! And what a surprise to get to this blog post and see the chalet I worked at as a host a few winters ago featured! Angel was such a sweet little thing too! I must get back there again in summer, it looks incredible.
    Thank you!
