Up in the mountains

Chamonix - Aiguille du Midi

The day before the wedding, we took the cable car up the mountainside to Aiguille du Midi, near Mont Blanc. The ride up was a little hairy and my sister turned green with altitude sickness, but the views made it all worthwhile.

Eek – don’t look down

The visitor centre at the top reminds me of a Bond villain’s lair

Some brave mountaineers head out

While the cable car that whisks you up the mountainside is packed with around 60 people and zips along at quite an ear-popping pace, you can also take a panoramic cab at the top which holds only four and takes a leisurely hour to tour the mountain tops. The views were truly panoramic and remarkable, with the sky so clear and huge geographical features looking tiny from so high up. Only seeing the specks of mountaineers gave a sense of scale.

The one with three cable cars is my favourite:) A great time to do it, so much clarity!

Oh my god, it looks so gorgeous in the summertime. I have ridiculous pictures from the winter – the top of that mountain is the coldest I have ever been. Let me know if you want to see my pics – it’s kind of a funny contrast
